Main Street Festival Meetings – SUNDAY MAY 2, (2-3PM); SUNDAY MAY 16 (2-3PM)

Both our next two meetings will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Community Centre, #1 Kingsway (rm #1). We’ve got some exciting things happening but still need more people to join the fun! Hope to see you there.

I have lived in Toronto for 30 years and do not drive. My husband sold his car 2 years after he moved to Toronto from the west coast. When we bought our house in 1984, our first requirement in house sear was to be close to public transport (especially the subway). We now live in the core of the city (a 5 minute away from a subway service), but people still drive cars! Why? In any case, I still ask, why is an owned vehicle required – cabs, rentals are there. So, don’t feel good that there you are fronting a car free day…realize it as a lifestyle! Hahahaha..the majority of people can not realize it! PLEASE POST THIS! (by the way, I have met more adults who grew up in Toronto who have never had there license).

    Hi Audrey,

I agree with you. Most of the festival organizers do not own cars, and live car-free lifestyles here in Vancouver. I certainly do!

Unfortunately, though, a lot of people are not willing or able to recognize car-free as a viable lifestyle yet. This festival is our way of trying to get people to consider it, and see what our neighbourhoods and streets good be like if people were less car-dependent.

And I thought I was the sensible one. Thanks for setting me stirghat.
