Yes, you can host your own neighbourhood block party. It’s easy! Here is everything you need to do:
Step 1: Check out the map below showing Block Parties for 2009. If there’s a party already planned for your block, send us an email at email@example.com or call Mel at 604.731.0599 and we’ll put you in touch with the neighbours who have started organising it.
Step 2: If there isn’t a party on your block already, collect signatures from your neighbours in support of a party- a great way to meet the people on your street and also invite them to the party! The city requires that you have approval from a majority of the households in the block before we can approve the street closure and send you barricades. Get the official block party sign up sheet here
Step 3: Fill out the city’s official block party application/insurance form. Get the application form here
Step 4: Email or call us (see above) when you have completed the sign up sheet and application, and we’ll make arrangements to get them from you. (Don’t send them to the city! The city has put us in charge of the paper work this year.)
IMPORTANT: We have to have your application and completed sign up sheet, or we can’t send you barricades to close the street or provide you with block party insurance!
Step 5: Plan the fun things you’d like to do for your party.
Step 6: Saturday June 13th we will deliver your street closing barricades.
Step 7: Party day is June 14th! Set up your barricades and you’re ready to go.
Step 8: Barricades will be picked up on Monday June 15th.
