Vancouver’s funnest, biggest and most pedestrian-friendly party is this weekend!
Car free street festivals on Commercial Drive, Main Street and in the West End (Denman Street) take place Sunday, June 17th/Father’s Day. Kitsilano will be hosting several neighbourhood block parties (intended for the people who live on those blocks) on Saturday, June 16th & Sunday, June 17th.
Please check the festival web pages for complete information about festival locations/times and to find out what’s happening in each neighbourhood:
Commercial Drive Featuring four stages of music including HeadWater, Wassabi Duo and others (find the full line-up on the Commercial Drive festival web page); roller disco; dance workshops; Kidzone; artisans; Drive Vibe fashion show; delicious pie from OccuPIE and more!
Main Street Highlights are the SFU Philosophers’ Cafe “Street Life” discussion; eight stages of entertainment featuring T-Riley, The Evaporators and other great acts (find the full line-up on the Main Street festival web page); BLIM Market; a pedal-powered DJ; comics making; Tai Chi; knit-in and living room; kids bike rodeo and more!
West End Featuring a Father’s Day tie swap (bring your ties!); local musicians including Reid Jamieson, Meshe & Moon Circus and others; Vancouver Historical Society; philosophy corner; Vancouver Aquarium; Gassy Jack walking the festival site and more!
Kitsilano Block parties hosted by Kits residents for neighbours on these streets to gather together and build community.
Car Free Vancouver Day is 100% volunteer organized and run. We’ll be collecting donations at all of our festival sites because we don’t accept corporate sponsorships, have no banner sponsors and are not interested in becoming an advertising opportunity. Car Free Vancouver Day is all about taking over the streets and reclaiming them for neighbourhoods. To support us, please make a cash donation at the festivals or donate now by clicking the Donate button on the right side of this page.
On June 17th, visit the festival closest to you or choose to rove from Fest to Fest throughout the city to get a taste of different neighbourhood celebrations. You’ll meet great people, have loads of fun and will have an opportunity to consider how Vancouver’s neighbourhoods can continue to build community and reduce car dependency. We are a pedestrian/bike/transit-friendly festival so please respect the spirit of the day and don’t drive! BEST will provide bike valet service on Main Street and Commercial Drive so that you can securely park your bike at these sites.
Stay connected with us at the festivals: You’ll find us on Facebook and Twitter @carfreeyvr. Use hashtags #CFDrive #CFKits #CFMain and #CFWest when tweeting about the different festivals. Bring your cameras to Car Free Vancouver Day and share your photos with us on Flickr (note that we really appreciate Creative Commons licensing of photos so that we can use them with attribution and share alike). We encourage you to download and share our posters and stickers.
We look forward to seeing you rain or shine this weekend! We’ve ordered sunshine but we know this city can be counted on to have fun even if it means donning raincoats, umbrellas and rubber boots. Let’s splash to our heart’s content in the puddles if it turns out we can’t frolic in the sunshine!
